Many don’t know Van Gogh started by painting realistic scenes of common people. His paintings and sketches were dark, charcoal based and without colour.
His later, and well known, colourful and impressionistic style started only after he started doing things his own way.
This print, based on one of Van Gogh’s early paintings of a weaver, is Thomke's reinterpretation of doing things the way you want it.
"In a tribute to Van Gogh I wanted to add colour to a scene deprived of colour. I like to think that I see the world in this same way. Because even when things look dark, we are always able to add our own colour to the world by looking at it in a different way."
